The best sessions start well before the shutter. What you wear sets the mood of every frame, so a little planning goes a long way.
Start with a palette, not an outfit
Pick two or three colors that sit near each other and build from there. Soft, earthy tones photograph beautifully in natural light and keep the attention on faces, not fabric.
- Lean into texture — linen, wool, and knits read wonderfully on camera.
- Skip large logos and tight patterns; they fight the photo.
- Bring a second look so we have options on the day.
Dress for the location
A field at golden hour asks for something different than a downtown wall.
Comfortable people make better portraits. Wear something you’d actually choose.
A quick checklist
- Steam or iron the night before.
- Break in new shoes first.
- Keep accessories simple.
